Small-town charm, civic pride, friendly people, and a premier school system are just some of the reasons businesses and residents choose Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
Just a few miles west of Chicago, Glen Ellyn encourages business development through public/private partnerships and has created financial incentive award programs to encourage and develop commercial growth. The Village’s interior, facade and fire prevention award programs facilitate property improvements and new business opportunities through matching fund programs.
Advancing Economic Development
Recent years have also brought the creation of two new Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Districts, one in the downtown central business district and one on the eastern end of the Roosevelt Road commercial corridor. With the creation of the TIF Districts, the Village has had preliminary discussions with numerous developers for various mixed-use downtown projects as well as commercial redevelopment projects along Roosevelt Road. The Village Board is looking forward to continued commercial growth.
In addition to the work the village has done on TIF districts, staff has been actively seeking out new partnership opportunities to promote the redevelopment of sites throughout the community. In January, Glen Ellyn announced their partnership with five other DuPage County communities to jointly market vacant Dominick’s grocery stores in the area. The former Dominick’s location in Glen Ellyn, located on Roosevelt Road, has seen a significant interest since the partnership was announced. To learn more about this partnership, click here.
In June of this year, the Village partnered with Choose DuPage to host a Retail & Office Real Estate Broker Social. Real estate professionals from around DuPage County gathered to discuss ongoing projects within the downtown area and what opportunities will be available in the near future.
Shopping & Dining
Visitors and residents alike can enjoy new dining options with Reserve 22, A Toda Madre, Made in Italy Express, Javi’s Burritos and Muscle Maker Grill opening in the past year. These are welcome additions to the community’s widely recognized restaurants such as Chicks ‘n Salsa and longstanding Alfie’s Inn to name a few.
Boutique shopping continues to be a draw to downtown Glen Ellyn with Norabella Boutique, One Happy Girl and Shawn Sergeant Designs opening. With the completion of The Fresh Market Shopping Center on Roosevelt Road and Pet Supplies Plus opening, the western end of the Roosevelt Road corridor is generating a lot of excitement.
This year will bring exciting new businesses including Marcel’s Culinary Experience’s sister shop Marché, a specialty food shop as well as two new Dunkin’ Donuts, downtown and Roosevelt Road.
