Suncoke Energy Chooses DuPage County for New Headquarters

Lisle, IL -‐-‐ James Sheehan and Daniel Cronin, Co-‐Chairmen of the Choose DuPage Board of Directors welcomed the announcement by SunCoke Energy, a subsidiary of Sunoco, Inc., to relocate its corporate headquarters to Arboretum Lakes in Lisle. SunCoke Energy plans to separate its operations from Sunoco in early 2011. The move to DuPage County will create 105 new jobs and was facilitated with the efforts of Choose DuPage, the DuPage Regional Development Alliance. DuPage County proved to be the best location for SunCoke Energy’s new headquarters due to the competitive business climate, central location, transportation assets and strong workforce. Choose DuPage presented the company with information about the extensive global talent pool in the region and SunCoke’s choice of DuPage County is recognition of that workforce. The company will relocate and recruit extensively for its corporate finance, accounting, engineering, information technology and administrative functions. Many of SunCoke’s operations are international, and the proximity to O’Hare International Airport allows the company to be better positioned to service the international steelmakers that comprise its existing customer base. Choose DuPage worked with representatives of state and local government and other businesses to provide SunCoke helpful information regarding DuPage County, the City of Lisle and the State of Illinois. New County Board Chairman Daniel Cronin observed: “This is evidence of the spirit of cooperation between Choose DuPage, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and the Village of Lisle that is important, giving evidence of the success of teamwork in attracting and creating new jobs to lead our economic recovery.” James Sheehan, who also serves as Chief Administrative Officer of Tellabs, arranged for several DuPage business executives to meet with representatives of SunCoke. “The DuPage County area has the resources and the global infrastructure to support many businesses in DuPage County, and we provided testimonials of the positive experience of several growing local companies.” “SunCoke’s selection of Lisle demonstrates the value of DuPage County’s participation in the expansion and modernization of O’Hare Airport as a regional business asset for the County,” according to Grant Eckhoff, Chairman of the DuPage County Board’s Economic Development Committee. Catherine Schuster, Lisle’s Director of Economic Development was extremely pleased with SunCoke Energy’s decision, “SunCoke will bring many benefits to Lisle including new families, hospitality spending in local hotels and restaurants, and enhanced community image. The Village extends its appreciation to valued partners, including Choose DuPage, the State of Illinois, Arboretum Lakes, Jones Lang LaSalle and McCallum Sweeney Consulting.”
