The downtown has just a few buildings, including Wayne General Store, the police station and a post office where every resident has a box making the post office a central gathering place for residents.

Wayne is in School District U46, which also includes parts of Bartlett and Elgin. Students attend Wayne Elementary School and Bartlett High School.
