Coriant Brings Optical Transport Innovation to the Kingdom of Bhutan

Bhutan Telecom Selects Coriant® hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platform for New HighCapacity DWDM Backbone Network Optimized for Mobile and Fixed Line Broadband Services.

Coriant, a global supplier of SDN-enabled transport networking solutions, today announced that Bhutan Telecom, the leading provider of telecommunications and Internet services in the Kingdom of Bhutan, has selected the Coriant® hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platform as the backbone solution for its new country-wide DWDM infrastructure network. With innovation in photonic layer programmability and industry-leading scalability to 100G and beyond, the Coriant solution will enable Bhutan Telecom to cost-effectively scale optical transport capacity as bandwidth-intensive end-user applications and services drive demand for increased network bandwidth. Bhutan Telecom, the leading provider of both mobile telephony and Internet services in the Kingdom of Bhutan and the only fixed line telephony services provider in the country, is deploying the hiT 7300 platform to enhance the performance of its high-bandwidth business and consumer services, including 3G, LTE, VPN, and fixed line broadband Internet access. The new country-wide optical fiber backbone network, which replaces Bhutan Telecom’s existing SDH transmission infrastructure, will be based on Coriant’s best-in-class coherent optical transmission technology. The Coriant solution leverages key features of the compact and resilient hiT 7300 platform, including seamless scalability (10G, 40G, 100G, and beyond), cost-optimized ROADM flexibility, and end-to-end automated optical link control for optimal performance under changing network conditions. The Coriant solution offering includes the Coriant® Transport Network Management System(TNMS), an end-to-end management platform that simplifies service provisioning and reduces operating expenses, as well as a suite of professional services that will provide Bhutan Telecom with proven expertise in SDH network migration, photonic layer planning and design, network installation and maintenance, and other support services. “We selected Coriant for its proven capabilities in high-capacity optical transmission and depth of experience in critical support areas such as network migration and system deployment,” said Tshewang Gyeltshen, CEO, Bhutan Telecom. “As the communications needs of our customers evolve, our new high-capacity DWDM infrastructure will allow us to deliver the service performance and quality they require to maximize the value of reliable broadband connectivity.” The hiT 7300 is an industry-leading coherent optical communications system that supports the secure and reliable transmission of 100G+ per channel. The hiT 7300 achieves a total system capacity of up to 9.6 Tbps per fiber pair via 96 x 100G channels, and is designed to support up to 25.6 Tbps when using advanced flexi-rate, flexi-grid, and super-channel capabilities powered byCoriant CloudWave™ Optics. “Bhutan Telecom is an important new customer for Coriant, and this competitive win further illustrates the compelling business value of our solutions,” said Tarcisio Ribeiro, Executive Vice President, Global Sales & Services, Coriant. “As highlighted in the recent introduction of Coriant CloudWave™ Optics, we remain committed to bringing the industry’s most advanced networking solutions to customers around the world as they build strategic infrastructure networks optimized for the best-possible customer experience.” The hiT 7300 is a key component of the Coriant Dynamic Optical Cloud™ Solution, which combines a flexible transport infrastructure, dynamic network control based on the Coriant Transcend™ SDN Solution, and integrated network planning to create a powerful toolkit for multi-layer network efficiencies and next-generation service innovation in a new networked world.
