LOMBARD, IL – Recognizing the benefits of communication to the development community, attendees of the May 1 Village of Lombard’s Builder Open House lauded the Village of Lombard’s latest code amendments and outreach efforts.
The forum covered many newly amended code provisions to address owner and developer issues. Village officials established new regulations to address the latest trends in construction and referenced the adoption of the 2012 International Residential Code among other companion documents. Keith Steiskal, Lombard Building Official, stated that the code amendments help local builders as they help standardize some development codes between jurisdictions. The code review effort also provides an opportunity to re-think past practices and consider building materials and methods of construction that have not been used in the past.
The forum also provided an opportunity for the attendees to provide comments regarding existing and future code amendments. Discussion included potential future code amendments and Village officials also sought direct input from builders. Bob Mueller, President of United Home Builders, liked how the Village actually considers the costs of construction as part of the overall code analysis. He also stated that other communities should offer such forums to their builders.
Brian Hyde, Director of Architecture of Greenscape Homes stated, “Lombard should be used as an example for other communities. The permit approval and inspection processes are reasonable and are tied together well.” Reasonable permit review and approval times were also noted as a benefit to building in Lombard.
