We would like to welcome you to Itasca a small town (5 sq. miles) with a big heart for its business and residential communities. Itasca is located in DuPage County, Illinois, about 25 miles northwest of Chicago’s Loop (downtown) and about 12 miles west of O’Hare International Airport. We invite you to explore one of Illinois’ premier communities. Come see all that we have to offer. You will find that Itasca combines the best in modern living with traditional American values. Itasca is a neighborly community that possesses a healthy, progressive spirit and open friendliness. Residents describe the Village as an easygoing place to live, work, and play. This dynamic Village has a strong economy, excellent schools, and great recreational opportunities. The mixture of well-restored and maintained older homes, as well as contemporary structures impresses newcomers to the area. A mix of homes, apartments, townhouses, and condominiums provides a variety of housing styles.
Itasca is 100% accessible by car, rail, and air. We are five minutes away from three major interstates. We are about 45 minutes from downtown Chicago via Metra Commuter Railway. We are only 12 miles (20 to 30 minutes) from O’Hare International Airport and about 25 miles (45 to 60 minutes) from Midway Airport.
The Village of Itasca has a significant commercial and industrial tax base. The first major development was on the northwest side of town by CMD (Central Manufacturing District). The largest commercial development is The Chancellory with the Wyndham Hotel on the north side of town. On the southwest side of town is Springlake Business Park with commercial and industrial companies. To the east is another mid-size industrial park. Throughout these areas you’ll find companies such as; Arthur J. Gallagher, Boise Cascade, Continental Web Press, Enesco, Fellowes Manufacturing, National Safety Council, and Willy Wonka Candy.
Founded in 1841 by Dr. Elijah Smith, the community is a village, not a suburb, and the aim of the community’s residents has always been to preserve that small town appearance. Today Itasca remains an attractive picturesque village with a population just over 8,300 residents. With corporate, industrial, hotel employees, tourists, and visitors that number become about 45,000 persons in the community during the daytime hours.
The Itasca Historical District includes the following area: Bounded on the north by North Street; on the south by Bloomingdale Road; east to Irving Park Road, Irving Park Road east to Rush Street; on the east by Cherry Street extended to Schiller Street then west to Rush Street, then south to Irving Park Road; and on the west by Catalpa Avenue extended to Bloomingdale Road. The Village of Itasca created a Historical Commission in 1985 to retain the aesthetic beauty, character, and historical integrity of the Village. The Village of Itasca is committed to the preservation of its pre-1900 and early 1900 homes, buildings, structures, and places.
