Education is highly valued in Elmhurst. Elmhurst School District 205, which consistently receives gold medal status, features the $90 million dollar York Community High School, along with elementary and middle schools that have all been expanded and upgraded. The community also features the outstanding $24 million Elmhurst Public Library, which opened in October 2003. Along with District 205, Immaculate Conception, Timothy Christian, and Immanuel Lutheran Schools provide parochial education at the primary and secondary levels. The community is also home to Elmhurst College. Elmhurst College, which was founded in 1871, and offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. It is rated as one of the top comprehensive colleges in the Midwest by U.S. News and World Report Magazine.

Elmhurst enjoys a beautiful downtown district featuring the iconic York Theatre, along with many trendy boutiques and restaurants around the City’s commuter rail station.
