The City of Darien is a predominantly residential community with a well-planned mix of commercial and office areas. While relatively close to Chicago (17 miles to the Loop), it offers an upscale, suburban environment with a variety of living, working, shopping and entertainment opportunities.
While the youngest community in DuPage County (incorporated in 1969), Darien includes mature subdivisions and new developments, providing a broad range of housing options. In addition, the City offers commercial and office development opportunities along the Stevenson Expressway (I-55) and several County highways (75th Street, Lemont Road, Cass Avenue). Darien has one of the lowest crime rates in DuPage County; the lowest fire rating class in the State; new public facilities, including the Darien Police Station, Indian Prairie Public Library, Darien/Woodridge Fire Headquarters, and the Darien Sportsplex (with two, indoor ice rinks and two, indoor soccer fields); and a newly developed Comprehensive Plan an Updated Zoning Ordinance to guide the community's future growth and development.
