Commercial development abounds in Bolingbrook, especially near Boughton Road at I-355 and Weber Road at I-55. A string of chain restaurants has opened on the west side, off of Weber Road, and more are being built at that location. The popular Krispy Kreme doughnut shop is expected to open this year just south of the restaurant row.
In addition, the village has about 13 million square feet in industrial development and warehouses. For instance, General Motors is building a warehouse distribution center in Bolingbrook, and Sprint has located a calling center there. Home Depot also has located a regional warehouse in Bolingbrook.
Economic growth is steady. Nearly 18,000 new jobs were created last year, compared to 7,500 new jobs just five years earlier, and 1,000 new jobs 15 years ago. In that 15-year span, the population has increased 70 percent.
Tunis Browning, a real estate agent at Baird and Warner, said the booming commercial development attracts people to the community for jobs, but it is the affordability of homes that makes them want to settle here.
